Breather Conference.

We should all go to this. It is August 30-31 at Agnes Scott College.
Breather Conference in Decatur

(from their website)
The first annual edition of Breather: A Design Conference will take place on August 30-31, 2007, in Decatur, Georgia. A full day of events is planned to take place on the Agnes Scott College campus on Thursday, August 30, with additional activities that evening and the morning of August 31st throughout Decatur.

Breather will bring together artists, architects, interior designers, graphic designers, landscape architects, and other individuals concerned with design and its effects. This multidisciplinary approach to the subject will also be open to students from design programs in the area. The unique benefit comes from the interdisciplinary cross-pollination in both the audience and the presenters. Members of the design community are invited to “take a Breather in Decatur,” to be stimulated outside their usual routines, and to benefit from the ideas and practices of other design disciplines.

Breather immediately precedes the Atlanta Journal-Constitution/Decatur Book Festival taking place in Decatur during the same weekend (August 31 –September 2, 2007.) Information on the full activities of the Festival can be found at decaturbookfestival.com.

Sponsors for Breather include Iconologic; Agnes Scott College; Lightroom Studios; Davis-Moye & Associates; Decatur Arts Alliance; and Standard Deluxe. Breather will provide an opportunity to foster public awareness of the benefits of good design in public spaces and encourage strategies for design as an indispensable element of a sustainable world.

I need a vacation.

Here is a brief recap of last week:
1. I officially finished my Portfolio Center experience and "signed off." Truth be told, it was a rather anti-climatic experience but as a wise, cut-paper-poster-assigning-sage once said, "enjoy the journey, it is the best part." So true.

2. My "gal-pal/lover/homsexual partner" and I are in the process of moving in together. She has 2 cats and 1 dog. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. Together, that makes a grand total of 4 cats and 3 dogs.
Don't judge.
I would have a miniature pony and parrots if I could. Nonetheless, I need someone to remind me that when I say "I don't really have THAT much stuff...." I am friggin' lying. I do. I collect, keep, hoard everything. I even have a bag full of empty soup cans. "Why?" one might ask....well, I had this genius idea that I would make my "Hank's chair project chair" out of recycled materials...I imagined this beautiful chair made of the soup cans that I collected from my 2 years at PC along with other recovered materials that would be re-imagined into this beautiful piece of art that told a soulful story of my choosing. Well, that never happened and now I have a garbage bag full of soup cans. Yay me!

3. My beagle has started barking through the night because his sleeping box has been relocated. I feel like I am mothering an infant. I am up every 2 hours begging a DOG to be quiet. I think I may be losing my marbles....again.

4. I LOVE my job. I am, for the first time in my life, EXCITED to go to work. Excited. How many people can say that they are excited to go to work? I would argue, not many. I am at the perfect place, for me...everyone is so smart, conceptual, thoughtful and hard-working...it is fabulous.

5. Weeds is about to begin a new season. How MUCH do I love that show? I couldn't begin to express my love adequately.

I *heart* my friends!

I have the best friends. They had a "surprise" taco-margarita party for me to celebrate my new job and my freedom from the Portfolio Center Concentration Camp for Future Designers of America. Needless to say, I was in charge of making the margaritas as I have a rather amazing reputation for making the BEST. MARGARITAS. EVER. Fun was had by all and I love my wacky, wonderful friends!

Salmonella Saturday.

I'm not a moron...seriously people, I am not but sometimes I tend to be obtuse to the obvious. We all know I love peanut butter. I eat a PB&J for breakfast everyday. My favorite brand is Peter Pan Plus because it has more vitamins and minerals than the other brands. I have been confounded by the fact that I cannot find my favorite brand on the grocery shelves and have been hoarding the one last jar that we have at my GF's house...I covet every PB&J I eat with my beloved PeterPanPlus. I was aware of the fact that there was a Salmonella scare with certain Peter Pan Peanut Butters and, foolishly, I thought we were safe.

Until today.

Today, I decided to check out the details of this Salmonella thing. Here is what I discovered about our coveted jar of Peter Pan.

And, here we have the TOP to our jar....with the evidence.

Please say a prayer for us...I always thought the only way one could get salmonella was by licking a turtle. My whole world has been rocked by this new information.

Independence Day.

Lover and I decided to get bikes as an official way of celebrating Independence day. It's not a typical tradition, I know...but we are not a traditional couple. Yay us!
